About the Development Economics Study Program at UNRI
The Undergraduate Program in Development Economics is part of the Department of Economics, Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Riau. Its history began with the establishment of the "Department of General Economics," which was founded concurrently with the establishment of the Faculty of Economics, Universitas Riau, in 1963, based on the Decree of the Minister of Higher Education and Science Number 107, dated September 20, 1963.
In line with academic developments and evolving demands, the department's name underwent several changes: in 1980, it became the "Department of Development Studies," then in the 1990s, the "Department of Economics and Development Studies (IESP)," and since 2011, it has been known as the "Department of Economics (IE)."
The Undergraduate Program in Development Economics was officially established in 2006 as the only bachelor's program under the Department of Economics. Since 2017, the department's institutional structure was expanded to consist of several study programs; however, at the undergraduate (S1) level, the Development Economics Study Program remains the only one.
Initially, the position of Study Program Coordinator was concurrently held by the Head of the Department. However, since April 1, 2016, based on the Rector of Universitas Riau Decree Number 226/UN19/KP/2016 dated March 31, 2016, the position of Program Coordinator has been administered independently with a four-year term of office.
Today, the Undergraduate Program in Development Economics has achieved international accreditation from FIBAA, marking its commitment to educational quality and global competitiveness in the development of sustainable economics.
