HISTORY OF THE FACULTY OF ECONOMICS & BUSINESS UNDERGRADUATE DEVELOPMENT ECONOMICS STUDY PROGRAM

The Faculty of Economics at the University of Riau was founded in 1963, a year after the founding of the University of Riau based on the Decree of the Minister of Higher Education and Science No. 123 dated 20 September 1962 concerning the Establishment of a State University in Pekanbaru which took effect on 1 October 1962.

The Faculty of Economics, Riau University in Pekanbaru began accepting students in 1963 based on the Decree of the Minister of Higher Education and Science with Decree No. 107 on September 20 1963. Initially, the Faculty of Economics, University of Riau (FE-UNRI) only consisted of 2 (two) departments, namely the Department of General Economics (IESP) and Corporate Economics (Management) at the Bachelor level.

Meanwhile, the Accounting Department, Faculty of Economics, Riau University collaborated with the Faculty of Economics of North Sumatra to open an undergraduate program in 1987 so that the Faculty of Economics had 3 (three) undergraduate program departments, namely the Economics Department, Development Studies, Management and Accounting.

In 1994, the Faculty of Economics Extension Program at the University of Riau was established based on the Decree of the Director General of Higher Education, Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia No. 364/Dikti/Kap/1996 on 17 July 1996. In 1996, the D3 Accounting Study Program was established in Decree Number 131/Dikti/Kep/1996 dated 9 May 1996 and D3 Taxation based on the Decree of the Director General of Higher Education, Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia Number 127/Dikti /Kep/1996 May 9, 1996.

In 2002, the Faculty of Economics at the University of Riau established the first Bachelor's Degree Study Program within the University of Riau, namely the Master of Management Program which was based on a permit to administer the Master of Management Study Program Letter Number 1600/B/T/2002. In 2007, the Master of Accounting Program was established which was based on the Chancellor's Letter Number 187/19/Ak/2007 applying for an operational permit and became a reference for the Director General of Higher Education to issue an operating permit with Higher Education Decree Number 964/D/2008. In 2014, the Master of Economics Study Program was established, marked by the Decree of the Minister of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia Number 390/E/O/2014. Furthermore, in 2017, the Faculty of Economics changed to the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB). In 2020, the Bachelor III Management Study Program was established based on the Decree of the Minister of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia Number 167/M/2020.

The Department of Economics was established at the same time as the establishment of the Faculty of Economics, University of Riau in 1963, based on PTIP Ministerial Decree Number SK-107 dated 20 September 1963 with the name Department of General Economics. The name of the Department of General Economics changed twice, first in 1980 to become the Department of Development Studies. Second, in line with developments and demands for the development of knowledge in society, in 1990 the Department of Development Studies changed to the Department of Economics and Development Studies (IESP).

At a meeting of heads of IESP Departments throughout Indonesia in June 2001 at the University of Indonesia, Depok, it was agreed to change the name of the IESP Department to the Department of Economics (IE) and subsequently the name of the Department of Economics was determined for all of Indonesia at Trisakti University, Jakarta on 26- January 28 2006 under the name Development Economics Study Program.

In line with institutional developments at the University of Riau, since 2015 the organizational structure of the department has been developed to consist of 2 (two) Study Programs (PRODI) within the Department of Economics, namely the Bachelor's program in Development Economics and the Master's program ( Master) Economics. Each study program is led by a Study Program Coordinator.
